With our new ASC trim former utilizing two hems to keep the pieces straight, we have been fielding questions about how to get the pieces to lap nicely and we are here to help.
Here’s the problem.
Just placing them on top of each other can leave an unsightly gap, as you can see above.
Here’s how to fix it.
Step-by-step Guide to Lapping Rat Guard and Z-trim
Notching the pieces allows them to fit together tightly and also holds them there.
Follow these steps for notching:
1. Cut notches in one piece (either angled or straight) with a pair of tin snips.

2. Open the hems on other piece with a utility knife.

3. Insert the notch into the hem.

And there you have it – two pieces nicely nested together for that beautiful, finished look!
